Tri-County Warehouse Food Bank
This program stores and networks food and household products to 9 area food banks, 60 school breakfast programs, 65 non-profit agencies, 3 area food networks, 13 meal programs and seniors living in affordable housing.

All-Together Housing
This non-profit agency mandates to provide and operate non-profit residential accommodation for persons of low income. United Way of Quinte was one of four founding agencies responsible for its creation. Today, United Way of Quinte remains the lead agency helping All-Together achieve its full organizational capacity. All-Together owns and operates a supportive housing project in Belleville and is funded through the Homelessness Partnering Strategy of the Government of Canada.

Quinte Regional Adjustment Centre

Funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this program was established to assist unemployed workers find meaningful, sustainable jobs, by making appropriate referrals to Employment Ontario and other community services as required. We have two locations (114 Victoria Ave, Federation House, Belleville and 249 William St., Sears Unity Place, Belleville) to serve laid-off workers which are open Fridays from 8:30am to 4:30pm but we are available to make calls during regular business hours Monday through Friday. 

Worker's Help Centre
A pilot project of United Way of Quinte and Quinte Labour Council, the Worker’s Help Centre is open to unionized and non-unionized employees requiring assistance with any number of employment issues including EI or WSIB claims.  The centre also advises individuals on health and safety issues and workplace concerns.  Workers can be linked with available employment, upgrading and other community services through the various workshops, referrals and training opportunities provided. Open every Saturday in July & August from 9am to 3pm at 114 Victoria Ave, Federation House, Belleville and September to June from 9am - 3pm at 249 William St., Sears Unity Place, Belleville.

Hastings Housing Resource Centre
The centre provides assistance in locating, securing and sustaining affordable, emergency/temporary and permanent housing to low income individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Game On Program
Developed for male adolescents, Game On! uses a mentor approach to provide boys and young men with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles.

Go Girls Program
Healthy bodies, healthy minds is a program that targets girls in grades 7 and 8 and is designed to provide them with tools to help them make healthy choices around physical activity, balanced eating and feeling good about themselves.

In School Mentoring Program
This program matches elementary aged students with volunteers for one hour per week during school hours for the purpose of friendship and interaction.

Traditional Program
The program provides one to one positive mentoring relationships to youth, creating enhanced self esteem, personal development and social skills for the children involved.

 

BRIDGING THE GAP

After 3 and Summer Program
A summer and after school program which provides alternative learning opportunities at no cost for children aged 6 to 12.  Children learn acceptable methods of coping with negative behaviours in an environment where their accomplishments are valued and celebrated.


QUI NTE THERAPEUTIC RIDING ASSOCIATION (QUINTRA)

QUINTRA
This program promotes the rehabilitation and treatment of children and individuals with disabilities through horseback riding.  The rider engages in a series of activities designed to challenge and exercise the five senses increasing muscle tone, balance and coordination.

Community Options for Youth
This is a prevention initiative in partnership with local school boards providing an opportunity for young persons between 10 and 17to acquire constructive tools to effectively deal with situations they encounter in their daily lives.

 

TRIPLE P - CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH

Positive Parenting Program
Triple P is a positive parenting program that incorporates five  levels of intervention for parents of children from birth through adolescence.  The goal of the program is to increase parenting skill, knowledge and self confidence for ALL parents in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.

Day Camp/ Camp Ability
YMCA day camps in Belleville and Quinte West provide children an opportunity to participate in a variety of programs including games, swimming, sports, dance as well as arts and crafts.  Camp Ability is specifically designed for children and youth with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

Membership & Program Assistance
This program allows children, youth, adults and families who are unable to afford other forms of recreation, including organized sport, the opportunity to participate in healthy and physical activities which can lead to positive changes in lifestyle and stronger bonding within the family unit.

The Good Back Pack Program
This is a partnership program between United Way of Quinte, Volunteer & Information Quinte and Community Development Council that provides elementary aged school children in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties with grade appropriate school supplies so they can start the school year on par with their peers; armed with the tools necessary to create a positive learning environment.  Any area child entering JK to grade 8 qualifies to purchase a backpack.

General Support Services
This program provides a wide range of services to adults who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing, their families and their communities, as well as the parents of children who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing and seniors 55 and older who are culturally deaf.

Hearing Care Counselling Program
This program provides professional counselling, communications support and hearing care information, enabling hard of hearing and deafened individuals to maximize their independence, safety and communication ability, and to remain connected to their community.

Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP)
This program rents equipment at reduced rates, such as wheelchairs, walkers and other healthcare equipment to people convalescing in their own homes, maintaining independence, dignity and safety during recovery from temporary or long term illness.

Library Services
Using a toll free or online library service, the program offers access to thousands of titles in Braille, print Braille, talking books, descriptive video, newspapers and magazines, giving people who have vision loss the opportunity to continue exploring the world of literature.

Orientation and Mobility
Instructors teach safe travel techniques, allowing people with vision loss to remain active, independent and engaged in the daily activities of life, including employment, education, shopping and recreational activities.

 

FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME & TREATMENT CENTRE (FASTEC)

FASTEC
This program provides supports and services to individuals with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) as well as education and awareness of FASD by offering specific seminars, workshops and training to schools, community organizations, service providers and the general public.

After Hours Specialized Service
Provides accessible transportation outside of regular business hours for seniors and persons with disabilities so they can attend activities and functions during those times. Trips may include family visits on Christmas, church services on Sundays and other social activities.

Collective Kitchens
This is a new program to assist people with intellectual disabilities financially and nutritionally while providing opportunities to customize instruction. Those who participate in Collective Kitchens learn skills while preparing affordable meals that supplement their nutritional needs at home. The participants that take part in Collective Kitchens are on a fixed income and agree that their grocery bills were lower, and thoroughly enjoy taking home three home-cooked meals they prepared from beginning to end.

 

VICTORIAN ORDER OF NURSES (VON)

Footcare Program
Qualified VON nurses provide assessment, care and advice for clients who are unable to adequately look after their own basic foot care needs due to age, poor eye sight, dexterity problems, physical disability or illness.  Appropriate foot care can greatly help in the prevention of other health issues for seniors and people with illness or disabilities.

Information & Referral
This program receives, screens and directs inquiries from individuals with mental illness, their families, caregivers and the general public regarding mental health services and resources.

Counselling Program
Through group and individual counselling programs, individuals discover ways to handle and manage their mental illness through a unique process of changing ones attitudes, values, feelings, goals and skills.  Most mental illnesses can be treated and early intervention and effective supports maximize the chance for recovery.

Winter Warmth
This program was created to assist low income households at or below the poverty line, who are struggling to pay their winter heating bills. Coordinated by United Way of Quinte in partnership with Belleville Community Trust and sponsored by Veridian and Union Gas, the Winter Warmth Program provides one-time financial assistance grants of up to a maximum $450 for individuals and families who are in arrears and are facing service disconnection.

Adult Medical First Responder Unit
Well-trained and well-equipped, St. John Ambulance Medical First Responder (MFR) volunteers attend countless public events across Ontario to provide basic and advanced first aid. In case of a medical emergency our volunteers are prepared to provide the first response casualty care necessary to save a life, prevent further injury or provide comfort until emergency medical services arrive.

2-1-1
2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember, three-digit, non-emergency telephone number that connects callers to a full range of community, social, government and health service information. Bilingual and certified information and referral specialists answer 2-1-1 calls 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. 2-1-1 is free, confidential and multilingual provided in over 150 different languages. This program is a local partnership between United Way of Quinte and Volunteer & Information Quinte.

Caring For Others
This fun, interactive program is delivered to grade 4 classrooms all over Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.  United Way of Quinte and its team of volunteers talk to students about citizenship, civic responsibility and age appropriate opportunities for volunteering.

Day of Caring
Day of Caring mobilizes volunteers from businesses and corporations that support United Way and matches them with non-profit agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.  Day of Caring is a unique opportunity for employees in a workplace to come together, develop team-building skills and make a difference in our community by taking part in meaningful work projects at local agencies.

New Ventures
New Ventures allocations are to provide short-term funding to test new, innovative models of service that respond to community needs in United Way of Quinte’s service area. Small capital requests may be permitted through this funding stream but overall the proposal must address one of United Way of Quinte’s funding priorities. The maximum request allowable is $5,000 and is for one time only.

Outcomes Measurement
United Way of Quinte works closely with our funded programs to facilitate a shift in how we all measure the value of the programs we deliver.  The process of measuring outcomes assists program staff and volunteers to gather information that is important, qualify it, compare it against indicators of success, set reasonable targets and communicate important, valid information, greatly improving effectiveness and efficiencies.

This program manages a community help line, a website and a database of community services available in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties to assist individuals in getting information in a timely and accurate manner.

Volunteer Recruitment & Referral
This program increases the capacity of local agencies by promoting and advocating for volunteerism and civic engagement.  Individuals in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties receive support that allows them to engage in a   meaningful volunteer experience.
