Community Gardens
This program is a cooperative effort to grow food that will benefit people living in our community. Volunteers plant and maintain the gardens throughout the growing season. Produce from the gardens is distributed to those volunteers and to area families in need of healthy, nutritious, locally grown produce. Plots are available for individuals and agencies who wish to plant and maintain their own garden. We currently have three community gardens in Belleville which offer over 30 acres of growing space.

Gleaners Food Bank
The program provides emergency food hampers to individuals and families in times of financial need and crisis. Clients can visit the café, open on a daily basis, to supplement their food budget, for companionship, and in the winter months access a warm room.

Game On Program
Developed for male adolescents, Game On! uses a mentor approach to provide boys and young men with information and support to make informed choices about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles.
Go Girls Program
Healthy bodies, healthy minds is a program that targets girls in grades 7 and 8 and is designed to provide them with tools to help them make healthy choices around physical activity, balanced eating and feeling good about themselves.
In School Mentoring Program
This program matches elementary aged students with volunteers for one hour per week during school hours for the purpose of friendship and interaction.
Traditional Program
The program provides one to one positive mentoring relationships to youth, creating enhanced self esteem, personal development and social skills for the children involved.

Learn Not to Burn

Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Quinte

QUINTRA

The Good Back Pack Program
This is a partnership program between United Way of Quinte, Volunteer & Information Quinte and Community Development Council that provides elementary aged school children in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties with grade appropriate school supplies so they can start the school year on par with their peers; armed with the tools necessary to create a positive learning environment. Any area child entering JK to grade 8 qualifies to purchase a backpack.

Library Services
Using a toll free or online library service, the program offers access to thousands of titles in Braille, print Braille, talking books, descriptive video, newspapers and magazines, giving people who have vision loss the opportunity to continue exploring the world of literature.
Orientation and Mobility
Instructors teach safe travel techniques, allowing people with vision loss to remain active, independent and engaged in the daily activities of life, including employment, education, shopping and recreational activities.

Deseronto Satellite Office
This program provides information, assistance, service and referrals to seniors and adults with physical disabilities; however, as the only resource centre in the town of Deseronto, informaed assistance will be provided to anyone who seeks help.
Escorted Transportation Program
This program is a community support service delivered by volunteers that provides escorted transportation to medically related appointments and essential shopping for seniors and adults with physical disabilities.
Meals on Wheels
This program supports seniors and adults with physical disabilities by providing a professionally prepared, nutritious, hot meal at noon delivered by volunteers who check on the health and well being of the client. Frozen meals are also available.

Collective Kitchens
This is a new program to assist people with intellectual disabilities financially and nutritionally while providing opportunities to customize instruction. Those who participate in Collective Kitchens learn skills while preparing affordable meals that supplement their nutritional needs at home. The participants that take part in Collective Kitchens are on a fixed income and agree that their grocery bills were lower, and thoroughly enjoy taking home three home-cooked meals they prepared from beginning to end.
Community Placement Volunteer Coach
In an effort to further develop employment related skills, QVSS participants, who are adults with intellectual disabilities, will be matched with a placement site and volunteer coach, improving work and social skills creating greater independence while further developing good work behaviours and attitudes.
Program Cost Assistance
This program subsidizes the cost of recreational activities that are part of the day program for adults with intellectual disabilities so that all participants have an equal opportunity to benefit from the services offered.

Footcare Program
Qualified VON nurses provide assessment, care and advice for clients who are unable to adequately look after their own basic foot care needs due to age, poor eye sight, dexterity problems, physical disability or illness. Appropriate foot care can greatly help in the prevention of other health issues for seniors and people with illness or disabilities.

Counselling Program
Through group and individual counselling programs, individuals discover ways to handle and manage their mental illness through a unique process of changing ones attitudes, values, feelings, goals and skills. Most mental illnesses can be treated and early intervention and effective supports maximize the chance for recovery.

The purpose of the program is to establish financial stability for individuals and families who are in need of support during difficult times by providing budgeting and money management through a trusteeship.

These programs were created to assist low income households at or below the poverty line, who are struggling to pay their winter heating bills. Coordinated by United Way of Quinte in partnership with Belleville Community Trust and sponsored by Veridian, Union Gas and Hydro One, the Winter Warmth and LEAP programs provide one-time financial assistance grants of up to a maximum $500 for individuals and families who are in arrears and are facing service disconnection.

Adult and Medical First Responder Unit
Well-trained and well-equipped, St. John Ambulance Medical First Responder (MFR) volunteers attend countless public events across Ontario to provide basic and advanced first aid. In case of a medical emergency our volunteers are prepared to provide the first response casualty care necessary to save a life, prevent further injury or provide comfort until emergency medical services arrive.

Bilingual and certified information and referral specialists answer 2-1-1 calls 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. 2-1-1 is free, confidential and multilingual provided in over 150 different languages. This program is a local partnership between United Way of Quinte and Volunteer & Information Quinte.
Caring For Others
This fun, interactive program is delivered to grade 4 classrooms all over Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. United Way of Quinte and its team of volunteers talk to students about citizenship, civic responsibility and age appropriate opportunities for volunteering.
Day of Caring
Day of Caring mobilizes volunteers from businesses and corporations that support United Way and matches them with non-profit agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Day of Caring is a unique opportunity for employees in a workplace to come together, develop team-building skills and make a difference in our community by taking part in meaningful work projects at local agencies.
New Ventures
New Ventures allocations are to provide short-term funding to test new, innovative models of service that respond to community needs in United Way of Quinte’s service area. Small capital requests may be permitted through this funding stream but overall the proposal must address one of United Way of Quinte’s funding priorities. The maximum request allowable is $5,000 and is for one time only.
Outcomes Measurement
United Way of Quinte works closely with our funded programs to facilitate a shift in how we all measure the value of the programs we deliver. The process of measuring outcomes assists program staff and volunteers to gather information that is important, qualify it, compare it against indicators of success, set reasonable targets and communicate important, valid information, greatly improving effectiveness and efficiencies.
